Performance Improvement
There are two situations when performance improvement is the right choice. One is when you want to improve the performance of your workforce or department, the other is when you have a problem that may be related to human performance. In both of these cases you have a gap between what you want to happen in the workplace and what is actually happening.
Some examples of the situations that call for a performance improvement solution are:
- We’ve had an atypical event occur in our process, and we want to find out why and what to do to prevent it from occurring in the future.
- We’ve had a safety incident (accident or near miss) and we want to find out why and how to keep it from happening again.
- The vendor said that this new machine can turn out 100 pieces a minute, but the best we’ve ever done is 75.
- In order to stay competitive, we need to improve our productivity.
- One worker has acceptable productivity and acceptable quality, while another worker makes more product in less time, and with fewer rejects. What are they doing different, and how can we get everyone to make more product with fewer rejects in the same amount of time?
We will work with your staff to do the gap analysis for any of these situations. We look at the entire system, including the following components:
- People: how you hire, manage, reward and grow them
- Processes: what you direct your people to do
- Tools: the things that enable people to successfully perform your processes
- Environment: internal and external situation that impacts on people’s ability to use the tools and perform the processes
By looking at the entire system we can accurately diagnose the causes of the performance you are getting and identify what changes need to occur in order to get the performance you desire. We can then work with you to implement those changes and assure that you achieved the results you desired.
