Traditional mentoring programs, while having noble ideas and motives, rarely work. There are so many competing priorities for people’s time and energy that after the initial start they tend to fade away. Most mentoring programs set up a one on one relationship between a senior and junior person. These relationships seldom work because of the artificial nature of the relationship, time constraints of both parties and a fuzzy idea about what is going to be accomplished.
